Keeping Your Car Healthy in Summer Heat!

shutterstock_387793576Hot summer heat can be tough on all us, and our cars are no exception to this! It’s always good to be aware of some of the damage heat can cause to your car so that you can keep a close eye on your car’s health!

Some things to keep an eye on are:

Engine Temperature

During days of extreme heat, keep an eye on the engine’s temperature, particularly if you’re going on longer trips! If you’re running your air conditioner continually in your car, it can also cause the engine temperature to rise. If you’re going on long trips, try rotating between open windows and air conditioner to help maintain a good temperature.

Battery

Heat can also cause your battery to weaken as the water in it may evaporate during hot weather. While you can’t really prevent this from happening, you can check to make sure your battery is staying clean, and that evaporating water is not causing corrosion issues on connections and terminals. Care Car outlines some basic tips to maintain your battery health which you can find here. It’s always good to have your battery checked during the summer and when the seasons change as well to make sure it’s in good condition!

Tires

Heat can be hard on your tires, and overinflation or underinflation can result in bigger problems when you’re driving on hot roads. Check your tires consistently to ensure that the proper pressure is being maintained. AAA provides some helpful advice on tire health in summer here.

Interior

The inside of your can take a beating in extreme heat! Be sure to take out anything that may melt or explode under heat, and take steps to park in the shade when possible, leave your windows a crack open during hot days, and consider using a reflective visor in your windshield to help diminish potential heat wear and tear!

Keep Fluids Topped Up

Regularly check your car’s fluids, including transmission, brake, and power steering fluids during the summer months.

Keeping these tips in mind can help you maintain your car’s health and value! As always, Oke’s is always here to help you with any car servicing questions or needs!

Happy Driving!
