Ensure You’re Insured!

shutterstock_115761637Car insurance is something many of us purchase and then forget about, not needing to worry about it until an accident or other unexpected problem occurs! It’s a very important aspect to own and driving a vehicle, and in Ontario, it is the law that all drivers have auto insurance.

When thinking about what kind of coverage you should get, it pays to shop around for the best rates, comparing offerings from one insurance company to another.  It can be overwhelming trying to understand what sort of policy is best suited for you, so be sure to ask your insurance agent or broker what’s best and to explain all aspects of your coverage.

The Financial Services Commission of Ontario has a great, up-to-date resource outlining many aspects of auto insurance. They state that the six most important questions to ask before selecting an insurance company are:

1. Is the insurance company licensed to do business in Ontario?

2. What are the rates compared to other companies?

3. What is included in the policy and how does the coverage compare to others?

4. What are the company’s practices should you have an at-fault claim?

5. Ensure that you’re receiving good service you’re happy with.

6. Do you feel comfortable making this insurance purchase? Make sure it will be easy to get into contact with your company should you need to file a claim or have any questions.
